Surge Protection Devices

In today's high tech world and in the very near future half of the electrical demand in the USA will be electronic devices. Microprocessors are incorporated in your appliances, computer, fax machines, TV's, telephones, sound systems, burglar alarms, central dimming systems and etc. These devices are degraded, damaged and/or destroyed by each surge event.

IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers) Emerald book 1992 recommended surge protective devices (SPD) should be installed and coordinated in a staged/cascaded approach. THE STARTING POINT SHOULD BE AT THE SERVICE ENTRANCE. This is true for ALL power and communication lines entering the facility (Telephone & Cable). Residual let-thru voltage can be dealt with by a second tier (surge strips, etc.) located downstream at the equipment.
